After all, why spend time memorizing poems when students can easily look them up online?

At High Point Classical Academy, we do not ask students to memorize poetry simply to strengthen their memory, though it certainly does.

We memorize poetry because beautiful language shapes the way we think.

Poetry teaches students to listen carefully to words, notice rhythm and imagery, appreciate precision, and delight in the beauty of language. It helps them develop a richer vocabulary and a deeper understanding of how language communicates truth.
